Round / Rodela Shield – 16 Gauge Steel

Our Functional Round Shield is made from 16 gauge steel with a rolled edge, arm padding and leather grips. Popular from the late 15th until well into the 17th century. As the Middle Ages gave way to the Renaissance, wood shields gradually yielded in popularity to steel shields, such as the round, steel buckler. A terrific asset for mercenaries in crashing through lines of pikemen, this shield was strong and easily maneuverable.
